Rick Shecter

My primary goal is to improve the state of our most valuable assets, Parks and Facilities so that constituents can enjoy them to their fullest.   I’ve volunteered hundreds of hours over the past 5 years towards this goal and would like to serve on the Board to continue this effort.

My hundreds of volunteer hours include the following:

  • Introduced a robust mixture of Soil Amendments to tree planting in 3 Metro Parks resulting in a superior 90 % survival rate.
  • Travelled with Board members to Northern and Eastern Colorado to investigate successful applications of drought resistant grass seed mixtures and equipment needed to establish and promote healthy turf in our parks.
  • Personally ran water infiltration tests and soil analysis in Goldrush Park to establish recommended steps to grow native grass in bare and weedy soils. Wrote and submitted progress reports on 5 different plots in Goldrush Park with different grass seeds documenting soil temperatures, water retention and survival rates.
  • Participated in reviews and solutions with the sprinkler system in Goldrush and Smoky Hill parks to develop park irrigation strategy.
  • Helped research and define equipment needs to increase ability to plant and successfully nurture new trees in the parks.
  • Based on expertise with heat exchangers, recommended replacement of pool heater rather than continue to repair it.   This resulted in less energy consumption and better pool temperature control.
  • Based on expertise with pool water, helped make switch for more environmentally friendly water chemistry, saving the District money and improving pool water quality.
  • Attended almost every monthly meeting for the past 4 years.
  • Involved in investigating the potential of adding bee hives to parks.

BACKGROUND:

  • Industrial Water chemist for 43 years saving energy and water resources
  • I have live in Smoky Hill for 15 years.
